DJ BOOOOM! Põe um mambo bem caliente aí!!
Heleninha Alarm:
I'm shameless, AND helpless.... But what can I do? One cannot go around all dressed up and beautiful, with feathers on one's hair, drinking all the Absolut in Madrid, dancing, singing, with great soundtrack and not to think that everything is possible! That was what happened on friday.... and today I get this marvelously perfect still.
Even though my head, my stomach, and parts of my body that I didn't even remembered existed hurt, this saturday the moral hangover did not show up. It's better this way.

I wanna do really bad things with you
When you came in the air went out.
And every shadow filled up with doubt.
I don’t know who you think you are,
But before the night is through,
I wanna do bad things with you.

People without memory
For just a second I look up from my book, and notice that there are trees all along calle de Embajadores. I could swear they were not here before....

A late night gift
From a friend from all my life. To start the day well tomorrow, when I feel I can do anything.

Lots of things to do in town.... Yesterday was the day of San Isidro, the patron saint of Madrid, and there was a absurd lot of people on the streets. I love it. It felt like the summer season is officialy open now. Everubody on the streets, party, and lots of people that decided to leave all coats at home, even though it wasn't exactly warm at night. No way I was going to dress as a chulapa, but I couldn't resist having a carnation in my hair:

Yestrday I went back to Las Vistillas, where the party was happening. There was events everywhere, and as much as I could I tried to be in most of them. Yesterday was also the Night of the Museums, celebrated in advance of the Internationa Museum Days, the 18th May, and I went by the Thyssen exhibition, La Sombra, open till 1h last night. Also saw one movie of the porn movies festival, full of pin ups and all, interesting, but too long for the depth of the story, and well, not that fun when you are alone in the cinema (apart from a lot of strangers laughing nervously). The dubbing was too much for me... who dubs a porn movie? What's the point? And it becomes laughable anyway.
I love Madrid!

Your result for The Director Who Films Your Life Test...
Quentin Tarantino
Your film will be 44% romantic, 33% comedy, 46% complex plot, and a $ 39 million budget.
Wow! What a life you have led thus far! Action-packed, anti-social with probably dark humor. Quentin hasn't really made many films, but each successive one is a bigger and grander project ... and more violent. Karate CHOP! Your life story will probably star Michael Madsen, Uma Thurman, or some TV or movie star from the 1980s for which your film will be the comeback -- let's say Emilio Estevez. Maybe. Quentin's short directing resume includes Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, and Kill Bill Vols. 1 & 2.
Nachos and vodka during the weekend. Today working all day listening to Lupicínio Rodrigues discography. Uncertainties, goodbyes, meetings, worries, and why not saying it, pure fear. I had everything these last days, and sometimes I ask myself how this small body can handle so much. And sometimes it is too damn hard, and it overwhelms me.

The famous Torrija / Rabanada
Originally uploaded by jlastras
I wake up today with ths wonderful day, my yellow room bright with sunlight. It's Thursday and I can sleep! At first I woke up early, worried that I didn't hear the alarm ringing, and suddenly I realize it's a holiday, is there a better feeling than that? I spent hours laying in my pink sheets, till my dear Carito called from Barajas, just arriving from her NY adventure...
Soon I'll go out - once I manage to leave this bed - to try the torrijas, the protagonist of Easter gastronomy. I have come to realize already that they are exactly what I'd call Rabanada in my country, but there we make then for Christmas. And it seems that it's also an universal truth that the biblical movies are typical of Easter too. All the tvs are showing what they have. And I remember childhood at the beach house, where we'd watch this over and over before cable TV and all. As for me, the most biblical I can get is watching (again!) Life of Brian, from my inherited Monty Python box of DVDs. Or one of the thousand others I have been compulsively downlowding....
For the afternoon the program includes trying to see the procession of Jesús el Pobre, which leaves at 19h from Iglesia de San Pedro "el Viejo", at C/ Nuncio, 14, and goes around the centre. And on friday, the procession of Jesús Nazareno de Medinaceli, leaves also at 19h, but this time from Iglesia-basílica de Nuestro Padre Jesús de Medinaceli, at Plaza de Jesús. I'm not religious at all, but I do love to see how the city gets at this dates, and also I love to try these specific food specialties for different seasons.
Easter season in Madri is definetely not like in Andaluzia, but I want to see how it is. Last year I cannot remember where I was, but surely travelling. This year I stay here for different reasons, but my cousin is arriving tomorrow for the holiday, so it's going to be a good time. After these last weeks of hard work it will be good to rest a little (and finish the translation!), to go back on monday on full throttle. There is too much to do.
Por las torrijas!

Loads of work at the museum, and me, happier and happier. Everybody who knows me know well how happy I am when it comes to installing exhibitions! Also, Easter is coming, and the idea or having my cousin at home makes everything even better! I'm already busy programming the holiday, experiencing cooking, drinking wine, chatting, go out dancing, attend to at least two processions in town. Not a hair of me is religious, but I can't help loving the way the city gets with all this movement. Good humoured, but with my head full.... What is it that I have been waiting for, anyway?

Cartography

A city is to be walked by. That’s how I live Madrid. I wish I was born as a more talented writer, to describe as I gradually made mine these streets. One day, maybe I’ll make a cartography of the streets of my life, and it will be a huge, intricate map, full of secret small streets, dark alleys that breathe age, also bright sunny days, beaches, parks, and every corner with it`s own recognizable sounds, known faces, and promises everywhere. There I’ll build a library to store all the books read during the kilometres covered along the way, read at the cafés, bars, parks where I spend lonely days and nights, and every cover I saw through shop windows and library shelves, that I never came to read. There will be a museum of all the exhibitions I worked on, the ones I visited and stayed in me forever. On the lifts one could listen to the radio playing the songs of all my life, each one I listened to. Everywhere there will be restaurants and bars of everything I tasted.
Since I started reading Invisible Cities, by Italo Calvino, I see the whole city as a narrative. While I followed the deliciously bohemian walk around downtown for the Noche de Max Estrella, last night, drinking the sangria that was offered to me, listenting to poets and artists, and musicians, I felt that the most interesting of all was to observe the faces of the strangers around me, thrilled with the representation of scenes of Luces de Bohemia in the streets. I recognize a new habit, to observe people. Well that’s not exactly a new habit, but it comes to me now with a pleasure that only novelties bring. I have been rediscovering so many things….
The city fills my skin. Walking the streets of every city, that’s my authobiographic project.
